Problem
Creating a quick way to search a database of 300m+ profiles. Identifying candidates open to new opportunities with insights and streamlining the engagement process.
Process
Discovery - Working closely with the recruitment team to get an idea of their workflow and where candidate sourcing fit inside their day. I also looked at the best competitors including Zoominfo and Lusha to see what their solutions were and how they were used best. Exploration - A discovery session into best search practices helped me come up with a few designs for the search, finding the best way to show and hide the search/filters on the mobile view. Design - As this was a quick turnaround project I went straight to the high def designs. I started by incorporating all the functionality that was required to make the process as streamlined as possible and then trimmed back the designs based on my Project Managers feedback of what was possible in the time frame for the development team.
Outcome
One of the largest struggles for this project came from designing the mobile version. Displaying a large amount of information for candidates clearly on smaller devices became a challenge. I overcame this by creating card-based contacts, displaying only the relevant information on the initial view of the cards. I also designed a pop-out search menu in order to make the experience easier on tablet and mobile. This project was delivered in under 24 days from ideation to delivery, on its second day of release it brought in £38k in revenue.
Learnings
Using a table-based design meant considering the most relevant information first. What information did a user want to gain at a glance. This project helped me consider empty states, what does the design look like with no results, what does a candidate look like with no image, no skills, etc. When it came to user testing it turned out customers were bulk selecting candidates to message them all at once, this meant some limitations on the ‘select all’ option had to be put in place. It also meant there needed to be a way to bulk reveal candidates.
